Eve Childers, Owner Of Stage Stop Cantina

Through my time in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, I have had the amazing opportunity to get close to Eve Childers and her amazing family. I have spent many evenings on the porch of the Stage Stop Cantina and left with memories that I know will last a lifetime. The valley this café is located in brings a quietness and serenity that is unmatched anywhere else in Colorado Springs, but the sense of community and family is what makes you want to keep coming back.

Eve’s passion for producing quality food shines bright through the delicious meals she offers that hit the spot whether you have been working all day, hiking through Emerald Valley, rock climbing with friends, or just went on a scenic drive up Old Stage Road. Paired with amazing original cocktails, you never leave the Cantina feeling unsatisfied.

Tell me about your brand!

Family oriented, family owned small business that has been serving Colorado Springs for years.

What does your business do/provide?

Small mountain café, providing food and libation for tourists and our community.

What do you feel sets you and your business apart from others?

Amazing location and setting, as well as scratch made food and drinks makes our business absolutely one of a kind!

What is your business’s backstory? How and why did you start your business?

Together we are a family business, but siblings having their own direction under the entity. We have all worked together for many years, and we started by our father. The combination of the two seemed like and turned out to be perfect fit!

What are the driving passions and morals for you and your business?

I have always been very passionate about food and business, we do the best we can to make it absolutely memorable, and leave you wanting to come back for more.

What do you think really put your business on the map?

The location is the most spectacular “true Colorado experience” and such a short distance from Colorado Springs.

What are the most gratifying parts and most challenging parts of being a business owner?

The most gratifying parts are when people are enjoying themselves, and when they come specifically to your destinations with that in mind.

The most challenging is having people of all sorts and tastes, and knowing your products and expenses.

What is your favorite memory of running your business?

There was a group of hikers that were friends of my fathers, and they were talking about how much he would have enjoyed seeing me succeed. I also felt that he would have very much enjoyed seeing everybody there, and appreciating what he had started.

How has your background/ life story played a role in who you are today?

In my younger life, I did pack trips in the back country in the national parks as a camp cook. I’ve always love to cook, but this was my first in as a cook as a profession. That was an amazing experience baking cakes, 40 miles in the back country in a Dutch oven.

What is one accomplishment you are most proud of in terms of your business?

I felt the business from ground up, literally, and having people appreciate the ambience in the building is really very rewarding.

Is there someone or something you would like to thank or give credit to for your business ventures?

My father is always the one that I think of as who built me. He was always very encouraging and let us know that we really could do anything that we put our minds to and I took that 100% to heart.

Small businesses are the building blocks for a strong community. What are your favorite things to do, see, or share in your community?

Our very favorite thing to do is called “Tales and Tunes” at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. I recommend the zoo to all of our guests whether they have children or not.
