101 Essays To Change The Way You Think By Brianna Wiest
As the second book I have read and reviewed of Brianna Wiest, I am equally as impressed with this book as I am the first one. I looked at this collection of essays as a workbook to process the ideas and thoughts from The Mountain Is You even deeper. The Mountain Is You rips off the bandaid for you, while 101 Essays To Change The Way You Think makes you assess the wound. With some of her essays being mere observations, and others being lists of writing prompts and questions to ask yourself, it shifts back and forth from words of comfort and encouragement to gut wrenching hard truths.
Social media has filled with pictures of these pages and highlighted quotes telling people exactly what they need to hear. I find it beautiful that by chance you can find pieces of Brianna Wiest’s work and feel the sense of comfort her books bring while scrolling through social media. You see this book pop up in every self-growth reel and is recommended by most self-improvement influencers. It is inspiring to see so many people take the first steps towards regaining peace and acceptance in their lives.
Of course with my love of writing, the lists of writing prompts was something I looked at as my first step towards my own personal healing and growth. Writing has always been a form of therapy for me, but I never had such guided and blunt questions to really help open my eyes to how my outlook affects things. With each book I read written by Brianna Wiest, I feel that I get one step closer to becoming the person I want to be.
With this being the second book I have read written by Wiest, it sparked something inside me to think about things I would love to one day do with my own writing. I have always had hopes and dreams of becoming a published author, but I have never taken the time to sit down and release all of my perspectives and stories onto the page. Now that I have gotten a grasp of her writing style that has such a strong a sense of realness to it, I hope to emulate through this blog (and possibly one day a book of my own) as casually as she does.
