A Word From Donni

Hi my name is Donni Athey, I am twenty years old and currently enrolled in Savannah College of Art and Design. I was born and raised in Colorado by my two lovely parents, Bob and Nikki. At a young age they discovered that I had a love for horses, and throughout my life they have realized that it isn’t just a phase.

Around the time I started riding horses, my art started to reflect my new found love. Even though my family and I had no past horse experience, I did everything I could to ride horses and learn as much as I could. As I got older, and even joined a riding team in high school, I also registered for AP art classes. What did I draw through those classes? Horses.

In my Junior year I realized the clock was ticking to figure out what I was going to do after I graduated. I looked in to a lot of schools but only one school caught my eye: SCAD, a school that has art programs and equine programs. Moving in to my first year of college was hectic but so exciting, I got to draw and learn so many different things about horses while starting this new chapter of my life.

Each experience I have had learning about and handling horses is why I create the art that you are seeing today, I want people to see horses they way I do- as beautiful, strong, and forgiving animals. I create art to let people see through my eyes, when words just aren’t enough.
