Kerri Klenkel

As the first artist to take part in the Klein House Art Print Program, Kerri lets herself feel through her art- it is a way for her to release emotions and thoughts when the words don’t come as easily. That is the beautiful thing about art, it can make people of all walks of life and all in different situations feel what they need to feel.

A Word From Kerri

My name is Kerri Klenkel and I am originally from Bowie, Maryland. In high school, my family and I moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. I like to say I “grew up” in Tennessee because TN is where I truly discovered who I am as a woman; the events and relationships I encountered growing up there helped shape who I am today. I went to Lee University, a small college in TN. I graduated with a degree in Communications with an emphasis in graphic design and art.

After college, I still was not 100% sure what I wanted to do. So, instead of getting a job right away, I went and traveled the world. I lived in 16 different countries – living in a new country each month. Everywhere from Dominican Republic, to Peru, to Thailand, to South Africa; each place I lived had a unique lesson learned or memory made. Hardest, but best year of my life. Through traveling, I experienced many cultures, food, people, art, and adventure. Traveling expanded my imagination towards art. I learned to appreciate different styles, techniques, and meanings behind creating.

After traveling, and living in TN for a couple more years, I decided to move to Colorado (which is where I currently live). The beautiful outdoors is what captured my attention and solidified my decision to make the move. I love nature and being outside. I feel the most free and at peace when I am immersed in Gods creation. Recently, I have picked up the hobby of rock climbing and am excited to keep learning and exploring.

My goal is to continue traveling, creating, wandering, and staying curious. Typically, I am always open to trying new things – life is too short to be fearful. There is so much this world and individuals have to offer, and I do not want to miss out.

I hope my art inspires others to think, feel, and be inspired. In my opinion, everyone is an artist. If you are reading this, I encourage you to do something creative. Do not let your inner voice tell you, “you are not good enough”. I constantly must remind myself of this. I promise, if you are brave and take the time to CREATE, you will learn something and find a new sense of joy. Happy creating! Xoxo.
